SQL Install Readme (GalSuite Part-2) v11.7.0
Install Requirements
- Install Disk-2 (CD) contains full set of manuals (PDF format). JUMP TO OR TCP/IP Port Requirements:
PC/Operating System Requirements:
- WinOS: System Galaxy, database, & services supported on Win-10 Pro/ Win 8.1 Pro (with latest Service Packs).
- Server-OS: SG database and services can run on Windows Server® 2008 R2/2012/2016/2019 (64 bit).
[ Server 2003, Windows-7, Win XP are not supported. Note: the software installer will notify user and abort the install. ]
- The SG software is supported on a Server-OS for diagnostics use only; i.e. not as a ‘standalone install’, nor client for monitoring, badging, biometric enrollment, (…), since 3rd party technologies are not supported on a Server OS.
- System Galaxy (10.5.6 or later) & GCS services are compatible with Microsoft Server® 2012/2014/2016
Minimum PC Requirements SG 10: Pentium dual core 3.2 GHz. Pentium-4 equivalent (or higher); 2 GB RAM (Server & client); 40GB Hard Drive, 4GB Free Space dedicated to System Galaxy; Std. 24bit color graphics card.
Database Management Requirements:
- System Galaxy installs SQL Server 2019 Express (64-bit) during Step-2 of Galaxy Install DVD. An instance named ‘GCSSQLEXPRESS’ is created during the install process. Default database logins are also created during the install process. If you need a 32-bit Install, contact Customer Service.
- Native SQL Client Components are automatically included in the database server install when installing the databases in Step-2. You must also install the Native SQL Client Components every Galaxy client that are not hosting the databases (Client Components only).
- By default, Galaxy uses SQL Server Authentication with a strong password. Users can and should define their own database password during the installation process (Step-2 Database Installation).
- SG Databases (SysGal & SysGalArc) attach to the SQL database engine during a normal installation process.
- Always back-up SG databases BEFORE upgrading! You can backup during Step-2 using the installer program; Or backup before beginning Step-2 using SQL Management Studio or the GCS Service Manager utility..
- SG Databases cannot be re-indexed or compressed!
- SG is compatible with Express and Enterprise versions of SQL 2008 R2/2012/2014/2016/2019 (64bit). (.)
Network Requirements:
- Network Security Scanning Software: System Galaxy, and all its components and panels, must be properly bypassed.
- Virus Scanning Software: System Galaxy databases should be bypassed.
- All access control panels should be placed on a V-LAN (Virtual LAN).
- An internet connection is required for installing MS .NET Framework 3.5 for Win-7 OS; Win-8.1/10 OS must install v3.5 manually.
- 635-series controllers are 10/100 MB, Full Duplex, AUTO SENSING.
- 508i/600-series controllers require 10MB/Full Duplex at the port/switch/router for TCP/IP connection.
- All 635/600 CPUs & all 508i ‘primary’ CPUs require a unique IP address & Subnet Mask.
- A Static IP Address is required for the 508i “Primary Panel” on each 422 Loop (DHCP not supported in 508i)
- A Static IP Address is recommended for 600/635 controllers. If static IP Address is not available, use non-routable addressing with permanent lease.
M MANDATORY: a static IP Address is REQUIRED for any PC running the GCS Event Service.
Do not use DHCP addressing for the Event Server.
Installation Requirements:
- SG 64-bit Install now comes on a single USB drive, or as a downloadable install package. .
- Installing System Galaxy software requires full administrator rights. Operating Galaxy software requires Power User rights at the PC including the ability to read/write to the registry.
- Microsoft .NET Framework is installed during the Installer Step-1 Prerequisites. You must run Step-1 before running Step-2 on each Galaxy server or client. You must run the Prerequisites from the same Install Media (USB/ISO) that matches the version of System Galaxy you are installing/running.

Step-2 SQL Express Installation Instructions
System Galaxy installer comes with a current version of MSSQL Express, SysGal databases, and the MSSQL Database Management Studio.
As of SG v11.6 the installer comes with MSSQL Express 2019. (Prior versions of SG 11 installed MSSQL Express 2014)
- You must sign-in to the Windows OS with an admin-level login before launching the Galaxy Install media (USB/OSI).
- Before starting Step-2, you must have finish Step-1 Prerequisites Install and Restart the computer .
- From the DVD GalSuite splash-screen, click on Step-2 SQL Install to begin and choose the appropriate choice (New Install or Upgrade Databases) .
- You can accept the default installation folder or browse to desired location. Then click Option-1 to Install NEW Server.
- You will advance thru the screens that show the databases will attach to the GCSSQLEXPRESS instance.
- Before the SQL Express Engine installs. the installer will verify that the appropriate components and prerequisites are present (such NET Framework, and other checks). The Install program will identify any precheck failures so user can correct the issue. When all checks "pass", the SQL installer will begin installing the SQL components and SysGal Databases.
- During the installation, the user will have an opportunity to change the SA and Client passwords (this is recommended).
- The database can take a while to complete it's installation - generally will install in less than 45 minutes.
- After the Database installation is finished, you should Restart your computer to initialize all settings.
- The following should have installed ...
- Native SQL Client Components
- SQL Server Express 2019 RDBMS (64-bit) -
- SysGal & SysGalArc databases with sa & client logins in tact.
- NOTE: the SQL 2019 DB Management Studio Express runs as a separate installer component.
TCP/IP Port Requirements:
The following ports must be open/unblocked on the PC and appropriate network devices to allow System Galaxy to function on the network.
- Note - for 3rd Party applications/devices: may need to open firewall ports manually.
